Sunday

Tonight at The Village, when Chandler started preaching, it struck me that he uses a music stand as a pulpit, and that spoke volumes to me about how it’s not about the building, the stuff, the material, worldly things, it’s about the Word of God that Chandler is preaching up there on stage/screen.

Now, I’m not saying that we don’t have nice things. Our building is lovely. Yes, we have microphones and instruments, and decorations, and a big screen (since Chandler is actually preaching from Flower Mound to the three campuses of The Village Church). We aren’t minimalists or very poor as a church, it doesn’t seem.

But he doesn’t preach from a fancy pulpit. He wears jeans and a short-sleeved button-down, untucked. There is no emphasis on what he looks like up there on that screen, or on the stage when it’s one of our campus pastors teaching. The focus is on the Bible, the lessons God is giving us through those preachers.

Just another reason I love my church.

Also, because tonight Chandler said “unsureity” because he couldn’t think of the word “doubt” quick enough. (:
